Dragons have often been the character in books and movies, but you many not realize they are also part of some video games. Dragons Lair is the most popular video game to feature this particular creature. It was released in 1983 and is still a very popular game even though many others have been introduced into the gaming world since then. This particular video game was developed by Disney and had very advanced types of animation for its time.

Even though Disney was hoping for a top hit with Dragons Lair, they weren’t prepared for the epidemic that followed. Arcades and movie theatres featuring the game reported lines for people to play the game. Children were cutting class to go to the arcades and fights often broke out to place the game. Many of the video gaming pieces of equipment were quickly wore out from the ongoing use of the joysticks.

Dragons Lair has a very common theme with a knight trying to rescue a beautiful princess. She is being held captive by a dragon in a castle. Players would have to learn how to get around the castle and to find the princess. At the same time they had to be ready to fight off the attacks by the dragon or they would be killed.

One of the main reasons that Dragons Lair continues to be a favorite though is due to the continued releases. As new technology and tricks relating to animation are introduced a new version of the game is released. This is sure to continue keeping people interested in the game. Some individuals that played it once long ago have found it and now enjoy it again. Others are fascinated to discover that this particular video game has been around for so long.

Since 2002 Dragons Lair has been found available for the various types of home gaming consoles. It doesn’t matter if you have a Playstation, GameCube, or the Xbox as it is offered for all three. In 2005 it became very popular again when they 3D version of it was released. Dragons Lair is also a common video game played in other countries around the world.
